Lifestyle News: The disease, which was once found in men above 60, is now affecting young people between 30 and 40 years of age. Prostate cancer, which is called the 'silent killer' of men, is now gradually becoming a national health crisis. According to the data of the World Health Organization (WHO), about 38,000 new cases of this disease were registered in India in the year 2022. This figure is not just a number but the story of those families who broke up due to lack of timely identification.

What is prostate cancer?

The prostate is a small, walnut-shaped gland situated just below the bladder in men. Its primary function is to produce fluid that nourishes and protects sperm. When the cells of this gland start growing uncontrollably, then they take the form of cancer.
Why is this disease increasing among the youth?

Lifestyle deterioration – Waking up late at night, eating processed food, and stressful routines are making the youth sick rapidly.

Lack of physical activity—Working for hours by sitting and keeping away from exercise can cause hormonal imbalance in the body.

Genetic reasons—If someone in the family has had this disease, then the next generation is at greater risk.

Alcohol and smoking – Both these habits activate cancer-causing chemicals in the body.

Effect of pollution and chemicals—The air and plastic we come in contact with in the urban lifestyle are also becoming a factor.

How to identify the early symptoms?

Prostate cancer grows silently in the early stages, but there are some signs that should not be ignored:

  1. Frequent urination, especially at night
  2. Burning or blood during urination
  3. Blood in semen
  4. Persistent pain in the back or hips
  5. Fatigue and weight loss

These symptoms do not always indicate cancer, but ignoring them can be dangerous.

How to prevent it?

  1. Take a balanced diet—include fruits, vegetables, fiber, and healthy fats.
  2. Stay away from red meat and junk food
  3. Stay active for at least 30 minutes daily—activities like walking, yoga, or exercise help maintain hormonal balance.
  4. Get regular screening done after the age of 50, especially if someone in the family has had this disease.
  5. Take care of stress management and sleep—mental health also affects hormonal balance.

Timely detection can help to cure the cancer

Late detection of prostate cancer can sometimes be life-threatening. In the last stage, removal of tissue and lymph nodes, radiation, hormone therapy, and surgery may be required. Timely detection is the most effective way to prevent it.
